Franchisors and Franchisees need to be aware that new Federal anti-bullying legislation commenced on 1 January 2014 via changes to the Fair Work Act 2009. Franchisors and Franchisees must ensure that their policies, procedures and systems are up to date to ensure that they adequately manage the risk of workplace bullying. Failure to do so may be costly.

New Privacy Laws will come into effect on 12 March 2014. Businesses that have a turnover of AU $3 million and that collect personal information and engage in direct marketing should review their practices and privacy policies and make themselves aware of and comply with the 13 new Australian Privacy Principles.
